- Andy is burning 4,500- 5000 calories a day, twice that of the average male.
- He is tucking into 200g of The Ultimate muesli every morning, plus big bowls before bedtime. One week that totaled 1.2kg of The Ultimate and 600g of Morning Glory.
- Ideally Andy should wait a good couple of hours between eating & exercising.
- Good tip- soaking oats in water or milk the night before makes the release of energy quicker.
- Andy has to eat every 2-3hours so often munches on some Ultimate between meals too.
‘The Ultimate’ Iron Man

Rude Health is proudly fuelling Andy Reardon as he attempts to be crowned the ultimate Iron Man at the 2009 Ironman 70.3 world championships. If you think this involves lots of domesticated men racing through basketfuls of creased & crumpled clothing in record time, guess again! The Ironman 70.3 triathlon challenge is no easy feat; competitors have to swim 1.2 miles, followed by a 56-mile bike ride, and to top it all off, run 13.1 miles to reach the finishing line.
The world championships will be held in Florida in 2009, and until then Andy will be undertaking a serious amount of training; he’s already doing 90 press-ups, 450 squats & 600 sit ups a day- ouch! To give him enough energy to train for an average of 15 hours a week in this initial phase, Andy is shoveling down lots of Rude Health’s Ultimate muesli & Morning Glory porridge- which isn’t too hard as it’s so irresistibly scrumptious. As well as 200g of porridge each morning, Andy eats 2 poached eggs & toast. He also has a big bowl of muesli before heading off to bed so he doesn’t get hungry in the middle of the night!
We’ll be keeping everyone up to date on how Andy is getting on with his training over the coming months. In the meantime, you can read a little bit of background about Andy and Rude Health’s recent ‘getting-to-know-you’ chat with him.

Hello Andy, Welcome to Rude Health HQ
What’s the very first thing you do in the morning?
I turn on my coffee machine! I have to wake up at about 7.30, but I’ll soon be starting a routine where I’ll have to get up at 5.30 to do a swim before breakfast. Bedtime is usually about 9.30/ 10pm. I’m ready for bed by then!
Do you have any naughty little guilty pleasures?
Mars bars! I’ve never tried a deep-fried one, even though I’ve lived in Scotland. I have had deep-fried haggis though. It was… interesting.
Do you have any phobias?
Weirdly, I’m scared of heights even though I fly for the RAF. I suppose I face my fears everyday with my job. I don’t mind being a passenger in planes too much; it’s when I’m training young pilots in the RAF. It gets a bit hairy sometimes… to say the least. Landings can be fun. It is more like a controlled crash- that’s why planes have such good suspension.
What would be your desert island luxury?
My Ultimate Motown Collection CD. Though I suppose I would need a CD player then too. Perhaps you’ll allow me a solar-powered one?!
You’re in Rude Health when…?
When I’m doing naked lunges. Oh dear… perhaps I shouldn’t have said that!

Andy is taking Holly for a pootle around
the park in the Rudecycle... wonder if
this counts towards his training!
