Bejewlled bowl

Granny used to say, “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine  like a pauper.” This taught us two important things: the first was to make breakfast as brilliant as possible. The second was only to visit granny at lunchtime.

When we set up Rude Health, we wanted to make breakfasts that a King would want to tuck into. As any monarch will tell you, breakfast is the last meal you should think about scrimping on, as it will sustain you all day. Pawn the Porsche, cancel the corner table at The Ivy, bring a packed lunch into work. But don't go feeding your family the wrong foods first thing in the morning. That would just be rude, and not in a good way.

If you’ve never noticed the way the oats taste in your muesli, then you’ve been eating the wrong muesli.

When you think about it, most of what you eat in muesli is the base. If it's not right, then all the fancy nuts and berries in the world won't make much of a difference. For our base we use a mixture of oats, rye and barley to create a blend of flavours and textures that you'll notice the first time you try it.

Once we’d got the base right, we found it enhanced the taste of anything we added to it.

The bloke at the top gets all the credit. The guys at the bottom do all the real work.
